10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not always exciting for many of us. But it is important. As the winter come to an end and we begin looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something within us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve hoarded over the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of your home?
The outside of your house could probably use a little refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your house in Georgetown, and, even more important, will provide much-needed maintenance and care that will save you a lot of money in years ahead.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the optimal time of year to clean your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during spring, making a mess in your gutters if they aren’t properly cleaned.

Plus, pests and critters are looking for places to build their homes during spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help stop an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Residential window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not give you much of an issue, but any second and third floor windows will be tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tough job, and it will require a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. Which means you will want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can clean your home, patio furniture, concrete patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not stain your house, and you can also stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning might seem strange because you will still be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washing company will do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, brick or another material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really help it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your patio gets the most use during the summer, so it’s easy to overlook it during the winter since you aren’t doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio might be in rough shape the first time you walk onto it in spring.

Soap and water – and a little muscle – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you may need to consider a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are typical home roof problems in Georgetown. While you are cleaning the outside of your house, it is a great time to clean your roof as well, but you will have to use a different method than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you notice streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is typically obvious, too. These particles cannot be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your house. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.

The ideal process for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and then leave it sit. This will eliminate any organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Clean up the Front

The front of your house is likely what most people passing by see, so make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a clean exterior will improve your day, and it will even inspire you to spend more time outside.

You can clean your front porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and consider painting it for a bright look! Clean overlooked areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You’ll probably be spending a lot more time outdoors, so spring is a great chance to organize whatever you will need for outdoor chores.

Gardening tools and pool care equipment need to all have a specific area outside your house – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the outside of your house much more throughout the time of year that you spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes can make a big impact on the overall look of your house.

Eliminate weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you might be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family sick.

Wet it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.

You can probably complete these jobs after a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! GTX Georgetown Pressure Washing offers professional residential exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
